Rhythm Garden in San Po Kong, under the management of Urban Group recently received the Certificate of Merit in the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (“HKAEE”) in recognition of its innovative environmental protection initiatives.
Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group said, “The Rhythm Garden Management Office has organised a number of creative yet practical green initiatives for its residents such as Medication Waste Disposal Program, Kinetic Power Bike Marathon and Green Monday Menu. I am pleased that these endeavours in promoting environmental protection have earned the support and recognition from the Environmental Campaign Committee.”
The Medication Waste Disposal Program is an annual campaign run by Rhythm Garden. This Program enables the residents to meet pharmacists whose explanation can reduce their concerns on drug disposal.
The Kinetic Power Bike Marathon generates electricity through cycling. A bicycle with a power generator is installed at Rhythm Garden. The electricity generated is used for the illumination device in the public area of the estate. Another green activity, Green Monday Menu offers healthy recipe every week to encourage a healthier diet.
“The Rhythm Garden Management Office is keen to promote and implement green and waste management for the residents. In addition to the aforementioned programmes, Rhythm Garden also organizes used clothes, glass bottles, fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent lamps, rechargeable batteries and optical discs recycling services. They also introduce odor-free kitchen waste recycling to turn the kitchen waste into compost.” Dr Edmond Cheng added.
The HKAEE is led by the Environmental Campaign Committee alongside the Environmental Protection Department and in conjunction with nine organisations. It is an annual award which aims to encourage organisations to implement environmental management, to measure organisations’ performance on their commitment to environmental management, and to recognise organisations with excellence performance on environmental management.
