Urban Group received Bronze Award in the EPD Chinese New Year WEEE Recycling Collection Programme

Urban Group recently received the Bronze Award in the Chinese New Year Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Recycling Collection Programme from the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) in appreciation of its effort in collecting used electrical and electronic equipment from residents in its properties, so that the items collected can be donated to families in need after checks and repair by recognized organizations or recycled under proper disposal, with an aim to promote the green practice of “use less, waste less”.

In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Programme, an award presentation ceremony was held on 3rd June 2016, officiated by Mr Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment.  Urban Group received the Bronze Award as it has a total of 21 properties participating in the Programme this year.  Among them, Belair Monte in Fanling received the Award for Highest WEEE Recovery Quantity (Medium-sized Residential Building) as it has collected 119 pieces of used items for reuse and recycling.

The 21 properties under Urban Group which participated in the Programme are:
8-10 Caldecott Road (Sham Shui Po), Kam Tai Court (Ma On Shan), Aldrich Garden (Shau Kei Wan), Monte Carlton (Sham Shui Po) , Belair Monte (Fanling), One Beacon Hill (Kowloon Tong) , Blessings Garden Phase I (Mid-Levels), Parc Palais (Ho Man Tin) , Bon Point (Mid-Levels), Pokfulam Fire Station Officers Married Quarters , Cheong Shing Court (Fanling), Prime View Garden (Tuen Mun) , Chermain Heights (Kowloon Tong), Queen's Terrace (Sheung Wan) , Grand Villa (Causeway Bay), Riviera Gardens (Tsuen Wan) , Handsome Court (Tuen Mun), Tsing Chau Street Customs & Staff Quarters (Hung Hom) , Illumination Terrace (Tai Hang), Villa Carlton (Sham Shui Po) , Ka Tin Court (Tai Wai)

Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group said, “We are honoured to receive the Bronze Award from EPD in recognition of our support to this Recycle Programme.  Over the years, we have been active in encouraging our properties to participate in the Programme, in order to allow used items to be repaired and donated to the people in need or to be transformed to reusable resources under proper recycling processes.  Such event not only brings benefits to the people in need, but also helps spreading the message of caring for the environment.”

Dr Cheng continued, “Urban Group recognizes the important roles of property management companies in promoting environmental protection.  Thus we have been organizing various green activities and introducing different kinds of waste reduction facilities in our properties to encourage our customers to actively take part in initiatives to enable useful resources to be properly recycled. 

Alongside with the Chinese New Year WEEE Recycling Collection Programme, Urban Group has been carrying out many environmental protection activities, including the Medication Waste Disposal Programme which addresses the importance of proper disposal of medicines to prevent pollution.  Also, the Group has supported the Wood Recycling & Tree Conservation Scheme held by the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Association by offering Christmas trees, peach blossoms and Chinese New Year plants to the Association after the festival seasons, which will then be transformed to usable resources such as fertilizers for planting.
