38 properties under Urban Group won 41 awards in the "Source Separation of Domestic Waste Scheme" jointly organized by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the Hong Kong Association of Management Companies, commending their efforts and contributions to environmental management of the Group.
Among the 38 awarded properties, City One Shatin under Urban won "The Diamond Award", "The Award for Highest Recyclables Quantity" and "The Award for Lowest Waste Disposal Quantity" which are the highest honour in the competition; while Ka Lung Court in Aberdeen also received "The Award for Innovation" and "Certificate of Merit".
Organized by EPD, the Source Separation of Domestic Waste Scheme has been launched since 2005. The Scheme aims to enhance the separation of domestic waste at source by providing residents with waste separation facilities on each floor of the buildings and also broadens the types of recyclables to be covered. To motivate the participation of properties in the Scheme, EPD carries out the "Source Separation of Domestic Waste Competition" in April 2006. The winning properties were selected by EPD according to the judging criteria of recycling effectiveness, waste separation facilities, cost effectiveness and residents' participation rate.
Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group stated that, "Urban Group strives to fulfill our 'Corporate Social Responsibility' in promoting environmental protection in Hong Kong. Currently, more than 40 properties under Urban have been participating in the 'Source Separation of Domestic Waste Scheme'. We endevour to help promote the Scheme and motivate more properties under our service to join, contributing our efforts to sustainable development of Hong Kong."
Dr Edmond Cheng said, "Over the years, City One Shatin has been the role model of 'Green Property' in Hong Kong. The property has been launching diversified recycling initiatives for its customers and promoting environmental friendliness to every aspect of their lives. Apart from waste paper, aluminum and plastic goods, the property also expand the categories of recyclables to clothes, electrical appliances, books, batteries and other home appliances.
"Moreover, Urban has tailor-made an innovative recycling facility for Ka Lung Court. We specially designed a recycling net for accommodating the used bottles and multi-purpose recycling shelf in the most cost-effective way to enhance recyclables quantity and the awareness of customers on environmental protection," Dr Cheng continued.
