Urban Group awarded Certificate of Merit in Occupational Safety and Health for implementing Good Housekeeping Practices

Urban Group, Hong Kong's Premier Property and Facility Management Company, obtained the Certificate of Merit for their Good Housekeeping Practices presented by the Occupational Safety and Health Council. This Certificate is to commend Urban in their implementation of the 5S principles of "Structure, Systematize, Sanities, Standardize and Self-discipline", and their efforts to improve the occupational safety and health standard within the Urban Group.

According to Managing Director of Urban Group Dr Edmond Cheng, "Urban Group is the pioneer in the industry in introducing the concept of "Human Capital" and values our staff members as our important asset. Our aim is to provide our 'Quality Partners' a clean and tidy working environment to reduce the casualty rate among our 3,500 staff members. Thus we can enhance their productivity and senses of belonging so as to contribute to the economic growth of Hong Kong."

Dr Edmond Cheng continued,"We formed our Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee in early 1999 with a mission to promote Urban's occupational safety and health standards in the workingplace and to implement the OSH Ambassador Scheme within the company. Up to December 2002, our 130 Ambassadors have all received training organized by the OSH Council."

In addition, Urban's OSH Committee has established the 5S Steering Committee at Riviera Gardens in Tsuen Wan to implement the Good Housekeeping Scheme by reviewing and stipulating procedures to upgrade the quality of the working environment. Urban Group also invites their services suppliers and contractors to join the Steering Committee to become their "Quality Partners". Moreover, incentive schemes have been arranged for all staff to promote the importance of tidiness at the workingplace.

Chairman of the Owners' Committee of Riviera Gardens Mr L C Ng said, "With the implementation of 5S Scheme in Riviera Gardens, the management standard has been greatly improved. It makes our estate tidier and provides a better living environment for the residents."

Dr Edmond Cheng emphasized, "Through implementing the 5S Scheme, not only have we provided a safe and healthy working model for our 3,500 staff, but we can also enhance the 'Personal Value' of our 'Quality Partner'. It becomes a solid foundation for our quality services to our over 600,000 customers in the 300 properties under our management to exceed their expectation."

Currently, Urban Group manages 300 properties and facilities, which comprise more than 120 million square feet in gross floor area. They include 150,000 residential units, 20 million square feet of commercial and industrial premises and over 33,000 car parking spaces throughout the territory. Urban Group has a high reputation in its professionalism, excellent service quality and innovation, which has become a mark of confidence for the property owners.
