Urban staff joined volunteering activities of the "NWS Volunteer Alliance"

20 staff of the Urban Group, led by Executive Directors Mr P C Lau and Dr Edmond Cheng joined the Launching Ceremony of the "New World Services (NWS) Volunteer Alliance" held on 17th November 2001 and visited senior citizens at various elderly centres afterward.

The "NWS Volunteer Alliance", comprising over 200 volunteers from subsidiaries of New World Services Limited, is committed to improve the quality of life and build a better environment for those who need help as well as remunerate the society through the diversified and excellent services offered by the Company. Under the appeal of NWS, staff members of Urban were enthusiastic to join the Alliance to serve the community.

Mr P C Lau, Executive Director of Urban supported staff members of the Group who volunteered to offer help to the needy in the society. He said, "The Management of Urban always supports and encourages participation in volunteering and social welfare activities. For instance, we organize the Scarf Knitting Campaign every year mobilizing staff members and the residents to knit scarves for the elderly during the festive season. Besides, we actively participate in the Volunteering Campaign organized by the Social Welfare Department and encourage our staff to organize volunteering teams, offering help to the needy in the society and to promote a sense of mission to the community."

After the Launching Ceremony, over 100 staff members of Urban together with volunteers from NWS visited three elderly centres managed by the Group. They included the Housing for Senior Citizens of Oi Tung Estate, the YWCA Multi-Service Centre for the Elderly in Hong Tung Estate and the Riviera Elderly Centre in Tsuen Wan. The volunteers visited the elderly, distributed provisions to them and chatted with them in a warm atmosphere.

"As the Largest Property and Facility Management Group in Hong Kong, which manages over 150,000 residential units over the territory, we will strive our best to build up a pleasant living environment for the people of Hong Kong and to support volunteering services," said Mr Lau.
