Urban awarded GPA contract to manage 50 government properties

Urban Property Management Limited, the property and facility management arm of the New World Services Group, has been appointed by the Government Property Agency (GPA) to manage 50 projects in the Hong Kong Island for the coming three years.

GPA tendered out the management of 167 government properties earlier to private property management companies by three major contracts, which divided into the Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Urban obtained the contract for the Hong Kong Island and will start managing the properties from 1st April 2001. Among them have 13 government quarters and 13 government offices, which include Harbour Building, Queensway Government Offices and Southorn Centre Government Offices.

Moreover, Urban will provide cleaning services to six projects in the Hong Kong International Airport and manage a number of government facilities in the Hong Kong Island, including the Central Helipad, Green Land Police Recreation Centre and The Kennedy Town Abattoir.

According to Mr P C Lau, Executive Director of Urban, the company has started to work for GPA since 1993 and gained fruitful experience in managing their properties. "We are delighted to be appointed by GPA to manage 50 government properties and facilities. We will assign a team of 160 professional management personnel to serve the properties started from the 1st of April."

"Our mission is to serve the owners and tenants of both private and public properties and facilities in Hong Kong through emphasizing customer service. We will work very closely with the officials of GPA to provide the best service to the tenants and users of the projects." Said Mr Lau.

Urban Property Management Limited manages 240 projects over the territory with 140,000 residential units, 30,000 parking spaces and 17 million sq ft of commercial & industrial premises. It is also the major property management agent of the Hong Kong Housing Authority and Government Property Agent managing substantial government properties including 19 public rental estates, 24 Home Ownership Scheme Projects and a number of Government Offices and Quarters. Since 1994, the company has been extending its service to the Central to Mid-Levels Escalator and Walkway System to provide its professional service to the public facility.
