46 Properties under Urban Group collect 1,300 pieces of WEEEs

Date: 6/9/2018

46 properties under the management of Urban Group supported Environmental Protection Department’s (‘EPD’) Chinese New Year Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (‘WEEE’) Recycling Collection Scheme and collected 1,300 pieces of WEEEs for recycling.

Urban Property Management Limited received a Silver Award for being one of the property management companies which contributed the most recyclable electronic waste for the recycling scheme. In addition to that, 3 properties under the management of Urban Group, including Sui Wo Court, received a Silver Award in the large-scale residential properties category, while Baguio Villa and Prime View Garden received the Silver and Copper Awards respectively in the medium-scale residential properties category.

Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group said, “We have collected 1,300 pieces of WEEEs in this recycling activity, including washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, televisions, computer products and small household appliances. They have been sent to the qualified WEEE recyclers in the EcoPark, which will turn them into raw materials after a series of detoxification, dismantling and recycling processes, thereby relieving the overload in the local landfills and preventing potential pollution caused by the chemical waste found in the WEEEs.”

“The Producer Responsibility Scheme on WEEE has gone into effect since 1st August 2018. The general public is no longer allowed to randomly discard their WEEEs. Urban Group would continuously help promote this Regulation to our stakeholders. In the long run, we believe this Scheme could increase the quantity of WEEEs, thereby achieving the purpose of reducing waste.” Dr Edmond Cheng added.
