Date: 20/6/2016

Rhythm Garden in San Po Kong and Ka Tin Court in Sha Tin managed by Urban Group recently received the EcoPartner Certificate in the BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards 2015 in recognition of their commitment in promoting environmental management.

The BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards, co-organized by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (BOCHK), aims to encourage manufacturing and services enterprises in Hong Kong and the Pan Pearl River Delta region to shoulder corporate social responsibility and implement environmental practices, so as to reduce pollution in these areas.  The Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 2nd June 2016, officiated by Ms Christine Loh, Under Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government; Professor Daniel Cheng, FHKI Chairman; and Ms Phoebe Tse, General Manager of Commercial Banking Department, BOCHK.

Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group said, “Urban Group is honoured to be an EcoPartner in appreciation to our efforts in promoting environmental management among the properties under our management.  In the two certificate-receiving properties, we have implemented a series of environmental management programmes which are highly recognized.  For instance, in Rhythm Garden, we have replaced the light bulbs in the staircases, facility rooms, carparks and exit lights with T5 fluorescent bulbs and LED lights, and install sensor lighting systems in refuse rooms, which have successfully saved energy and electricity fees for the property.  We have also installed renewable energy systems, such as garden lights which use solar energy to generate power, to further achieve energy efficiency.  While in Ka Tin Court, we encourage residents to take part in protecting the environment by supporting various recycling activities.  Since 2015, we have collected over 5,000 kg of used clothes and 3,500 kg of glass bottles and donated them to people in need and recycling respectively.”

Dr Edmond Cheng continued, “Through promoting different environmental management measures, we can conserve resources, reduce operational costs and create a better living environment for the community, bringing benefits to both the residents and the society.  Therefore, I wish to encourage more properties in Hong Kong to implement environmental management to cherish resources.  Let us join hands in fostering the sustainable development of the Earth.”
