Urban Group fully supports the Wood Recycling & Tree Conservation Scheme - 10 associated companies and 17 residential estates were awarded

Date: 14/5/2015

Urban Group and its 10 associated companies as well as 17 residential estates under its management, were awarded the ‘Hong Kong Green Mark’ certificate on 28 April, 2015 in the Wood Recycling & Tree Conservation Scheme organized by the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Association (HKEPA).

“This recycling program invites the commercial sectors in Hong Kong to offer Christmas trees, peach blossom and CNY plants to the Association after the festivals.  Urban Group, as one of the key property asset and facility services providers in Hong Kong, is obligated to promote this Scheme to our customers and contribute our effort to help building a green living environment,” said Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group.

Every year, there are over 200 tonnes of peach blossom and CNY plants discarded in Hong Kong.   HKEPA started to promote the Wood Recycling & Tree Conservation Scheme three years ago lest the discarded plants are being exported to overseas or delivered to the landfills.   The wood waste is recycled and transformed to usable resources including fertilizer and ‘covering materials’ for planting and soil protection.    The recycled products are given freely to the schools which have flowerbed, an alternative way to educate the young generation and deepen their understanding of environmental protection.

Under the umbrella of Urban Group, Urban Property Management Limited and Paramatta Estate Management Limited have acquired the ‘Hong Kong Green Mark 3+’ Honorary Certificate as a special recognition from the HKEPA for exhibiting 3 years of excellence performance during the sustainability projects and management process.

Companies under Urban Group awarded with the ‘Hong Kong Green Mark’ honorary certificate include:
Urban Group, International Property Management Limited, Urban Technical Services Limited, i-Urban Ltd., Broadway-Nassau Investments Limited, Lei King Wan Management Limited, Urban-Wellborn Property Management Limited , Harbour Heights (Management) Limited, Park Vale (Management) Limited

The awarded estates under the management of Urban Group are:
Blessings Garden Phase I, City One Shatin , Dragonfair Garden, Ka Lung Court, Lei King Wan, Lyttelton Garden, M P Industrial Centre, Parc Palais, Parc Regal, Park Vale, Queen’s Terrace, Riviera Gardens, Scholastic Garden, Sereno Verde, The Merton, Tin Wan Court, Yukon Court

Dr Cheng continued, “The ‘Hong Kong Green Mark’ certificates are not simply a means of recognition of our social responsibility, but it also serves the purposes of educating the public and continuously supporting environmental protection through various ways.  Mindful of the meaningful messages we shall post these certificates in the prominent areas to convey them to the residents and visitors.”

Other than recycling plants, Urban Group is also keen on supporting green management in Hong Kong.  The Group has been participating in numerous green events such as the Used Clothes Recycling Programme and the Food Waste Recycling Programme.  Others include the installation of energy efficient devices, recycling of furniture, glass, used books and medicine, etc.
