After obtaining the HK Science Park Facility Management Contract Urban Group appointed by EPD to manage EcoPark

Date: 10/11/2014

A contract signing ceremony was held at the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) office to signify the appointment of Urban Property Management Limited, a subsidiary of Urban Group, as the facility management company for the EcoPark in Tuen Mun in the coming 4 years.

Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group said, "We are most delighted to have the opportunity to serve EPD, starting from 30 October 2014.  EcoPark is a unique public facility in town with a total area of 20 hectares.  Every day, tonnes of recyclable waste materials are handled. Through various recycling processes, the recyclable materials collected are transformed into various green products and raw materials.  Hence, we have assigned a dedicated and professional service team to provide day-to-day facility management services at the premises."

The EcoPark is a key element of a comprehensive policy set by the HK SAR Government on waste management. It aims to provide long-term land at affordable cost for the recycling industry, thereby encouraging their investment in advanced technologies and value-added recycling processes.  Up to now, a total of 13 lots in the EcoPark have been leased to 11 private recyclers and two non-profit-making organisations for recycling various recyclable waste materials.

"This is the second important facility management project added into our portfolio this year, after the Hong Kong Science Park in Shatin, extending our service to the environmental protection facility management sector," said Dr Edmond Cheng.

In addition to the thirteen tenants, facilities in the EcoPark include marine frontage, weighbridge, meeting rooms, visitor centre, product gallery, EcoGarden, green roof, green car park, etc. Other than the tenancy management and operational services, Urban also offers environmental impact assessment and monitoring, marketing services and educational programmes such as docent service for the visitors of EcoPark.

"Our aim is to enhance the core value of EcoPark through exceeding the tenants' expectation, moreover, our goal is to assist EPD to influence the local people to take up their responsibility for environment protection," Dr Cheng mentioned after the signing ceremony.  "Urban Group is currently managing 350 properties and facilities in Hong Kong.  We will strive to facilitate new cooperation opportunities for the EcoPark tenants and further penetrate the green message to the local people."

Besides EcoPark, starting from this May, Urban Group has commenced their facility management services to the Hong Kong Science Park in Shatin.  The scope of services includes security, gardening, maintenance and cleaning, as well as Docent service.  Urban Group has enhanced the management team with technical experts to cope with a wide array of venues with hi-tech facilities and equipment in the Science Park; especially the newly established Phase 3 which is as a green hub to provide an eco-friendly environment for nurturing environmental and renewable energy technologies.
