Urban Group recently received the Sliver Award and 83 properties under its services received the Certificate of Merit in the Hong Kong Smoke-free Leading Company Awards organized by The Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health (COSH), commending their efforts and contributions to establish a smoke-free culture in the working environment.
The Hong Kong Smoke-free Leading Company Awards is organized by COSH and fully supported by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, with the aims in upholding the government's tobacco control policy, promoting a smoke-free culture and recognizing companies which have performed a leading role in shouldering its corporate social responsibility.
The Awards Presentation Ceremony was held on 18th February, 2014 which were officiated by Dr Ko Wing Man, BBS, JP, Secretary for Food and Health and Ms Lisa Lau, BBS, JP, Chairman of COSH.
Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group revealed, "Urban Group has been implementing a Non-smoking Policy at our Headquarters since 1995. The policy has been extended to all regional offices under the Group in 1999. All our staff is prohibited to smoke in the workplace and in all company vehicles. Moreover, all visitors to our Group and the properties are encouraged to observe and comply with our non-smoking policy at all times. We also disseminate information to our staff on topics such as the benefits of a smoke free workplace and the harmful effects of second hand smoke so as to create a healthy environment for them."
Dr Ko said, "It is a demonstration of best practices for employers to provide a healthy workplace for their staff for sustainable development of the enterprises. I hope that more and more enterprises would voluntarily implement the same good practice in the workplace to protect their staff from the harmful effects of second hand smoke and to act as positive role models in the society.""In 2011, 69 regional offices under Urban received the Certificate of Merit. This year, Urban encouragingly receives the Sliver Award whereas 83 properties under our services receive the Certificate of Merit, which help promote our corporate image in pioneering a smoke free workplace to our customers, staff and the general public," said Dr Edmond Cheng.
