10 companies under Urban Group signed the Food Wise Charter launched by the Food Wise Hong Kong Steering Committee under Environment Bureau on 18th May 2013, showing its full support on the promotion of environmental care and food waste reduction.
The Signing Ceremony for the Charter was officiated by Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Secretary for Administration and Mr. Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment. The 10 companies under Urban Group which supported the Charter include Urban Property Management Limited, International Property Management Limited, Broadway-Nassau Investments Limited, Paramatta Estate Management Limited, Lei King Wan (Management) Limited, Park Vale (Management) Limited, Harbour Heights (Management) Limited, Urban Property Management Limited - Parc Palais, Urban Technical Services Limited and i-Urban Limited.
Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group points out, "Urban Group has been cooperating closely with the Government to take practical steps to reduce food waste generation and disposal and to proactively promote the collection of food waste in our properties. We strive to help the Government to disseminate the message and good practices on food waste reduction to our customers."
Dr Edmond Cheng continues, "Urban Group actively participates in the promotion of environmental care to the residents under our services. We have established an effective platform in our service portfolio to help our customers to reduce food waste through good green management planning and practices. For instance, Sereno Verde in Yuen Long managed by Urban recently installed a Bio-Food Waste Decomposer to treat the food waste collected from the residents into the compost, which will then be applied on the planters in the property. In future, we shall continue our efforts to advocate for food waste reduction and environmental protection in our managed properties so as to fulfill our corporate social responsibility."
The Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign is a territory-wide food waste reduction event to avoid and reduce food waste generation. The Food Wise Hong Kong Steering Committee is chaired by the Secretary for the Environment and with members drawn from the various sectors including catering and hotels, retail, property management, education, the academia, green groups, food recipient organizations and relevant government departments. The Campaign aims to promote public awareness on the food waste problems with a view to avoid and reduce food waste generation in Hong Kong.
