The corporate website of Urban Group (www.urban.com.hk) recently won the Excellence Award and 52 Property Websites under the i-Urban™ Portal of the Group obtained Silver Award in the Web Care Award 2007/08 organized by the Internet Professional Association (iProA), showing their efforts in building up a barrier free communication network and contributions in corporate social responsibility.
Mr. K M So, Executive Director of Urban Group said, "Today, information technology is essential to our daily lives. Being a responsible company, we should emphasize the accessibility by every one in the society, including the under-privileged groups when designing our websites so as to establish a barrier free environment to obtain information and enjoy browsing through the websites."
In organizing the Web Care Campaign, iProA aims to encourage both the public and private organizations in Hong Kong to offer 'barrier-free' and easily accessible websites for the needy communities so that more people can benefit from Internet services. They published the Easy Guide to Building No Barrier Web Sites booklet in 2001 to provide guidelines to web site designers, commercial organizations and media channels on how to build up web sites that can be used by different parties of the community.
Mr. K M So continued, "It has been the 5th consecutive year that Urban Group won the Web Care Awards, recognizing our endeavors in devising easily accessible websites for the people. Our corporate website not only provides substantial features and information for the browsers, but is also installed with specially designed mechanism for the visually impaired people. It combines information-laden websites and our online property management concept to provide 24-hour updated property news and a variety of online services for our customers."
