Urban Group recently received the “Green Management - Merit Award ” (Existing Building Category) in the Green Building Award 2008 Presentation Ceremony, reflecting its efforts and commitment to green management and sustainable development.
Organized by The Professional Green Building Council, the Green Building Award aims to promote sustainable and green development, and to encourage the industry towards wider adoption of sustainable practices in planning, design, management and renovation projects.
Dr. Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group said “City One Shatin is one of the largest private residential estates in Hong Kong, which comprises 10,642 units with an estimated population of 40,000 people. Since its completion in 1981, Urban Group has been providing a comfortable and green living environment to the residents of the estate. To contribute to the sustainable development of the Hong Kong society, we have been implementing a number of innovative and practical measures. They include: using the swimming pool water to jet wash the carriageways of City One Shatin after the Summer season; installation of automatic light sensors for open area illumination; and participating in various environmental protection activities such as waste recycling, flea market promotion and used book donation.”
Since 2002, City One Shatin has obtained a number of major environmental protection and green management accolades from various organizations and government departments, including “The Diamond Award -Source Separation of Domestic Waste Scheme” ,“Championship in 3R Waste Recycling Awards ” and “Hong Kong Eco-Business Award - Gold Award”, reflecting its efforts in environmental care.
