The earthquake happened in Sichuan province of the Mainland China on 12th May 2008 has caused enormous human casualties and brought devastating damages to many people's homes and livelihood. In order to lend support to the relief work and to help the earthquake victims to rebuild their homes, Urban Group joins hand with its customers to place donation boxes or initiate fund raising activities in its managed properties from May to June to appeal for donations to the victims.
With the support of the owners' incorporations, committees and customers of the respective properties managed by the Group, together with donations from Urban Group and its staff members, the total audited donations reached HK$716,688.30, which have been handed over respectively to different voluntary organizations including the UNICEF, Hong Kong Red Cross, Oxfam Hong Kong, World Vision Hong Kong, The Salvation Army, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR and the Secretary for Home Affairs Incorporated, Hong Kong for the emergency relief services after the Sichuan earthquake.
Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group emphasizes that, "As Hong Kong's Community Manager, we are deeply sorrowed for the lost of lives and the enormous damage brought by the quake. We have strived to appeal for more donations to the earthquake victims through our service network with over 1 million customers. The fund raising activities were supported by the owners' incorporations, committees, individual customers and commercial tenants in our properties, which demonstrates the contributions of our social network within the properties managed by us."
