Managed by Urban Group, Queen's Terrace in Sheung Wan and The Merton in Kenney Town recently received the Merit Award of the "2nd Hong Kong Energy Efficiency Awards" (Residential Category) respectively presented by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, reflecting their efforts and commitment to energy saving and sustainable development.
Queen's Terrace and The Merton under Urban Group has since their occupation been adopting the environmental management concept and implementing various energy efficiency measures including selective operations of the passenger lifts during nighttime, introduction of electrical ballast luminaries, installation of high efficiency electronic tubes at public areas and adjustment of the public illumination system so as to reduce the operation cost of the two properties by at least 20% per month.
Executive Director of Urban Group Mr. K M So says, "Apart from cost-saving, energy conservation is one of our major measures and contributions to the sustainable development and building up of a green Hong Kong. Over the years, we have been implementing various energy efficiency practices at the 230 projects under our services. The Award received by The Merton and Queen's Terrace further confirms and recognizes our contributions to environmental protection."
The Hong Kong Energy Efficiency Awards aim to encourage organizations and the general public to save energy, and to honour the efforts, success cases and innovations of organizations and the public in energy efficiency and conservation. The judging criteria of the Awards include the adopted measures and processes, consistency, total participation as well as effectiveness of the scheme.
