The corporate volunteer team of Urban Group - "The Urban Group Community Care Team" is recently awarded the Gold Award for Volunteer Service by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) for its contribution of totally 1,421 hours of volunteer service to the society in 2006.
In addition, within the Urban Group Community Care Team, 2 volunteers received the individual Gold Award for Volunteer Service (for contributing over 200 hours of volunteering service); 2 volunteers received the Silver Award for Volunteer Service (for contributing over 100 hours of volunteering service) and 8 volunteers were awarded the Bronze Award for Volunteer Service (for contributing over 50 hours of volunteering service) respectively, reflecting that Urban Group has successfully built up a network for social services.
In 2006, Urban Group adopted a multi-layer approach for its social services, emphasizing "Caring the Community in Action". Within the year, The Urban Group Community Care Team and its affiliated property community care teams participated in the "Lucky Knots Campaign" organized by SWD and produced 700 knots for presenting to the elderly and needy people. The Group also sponsored the "District Elderly Campaign" and "Music Therapy Campaign" of Po Leung Kuk; when its corporate volunteers participated in both programmes by visiting the elderly and assisting in the design of special music activities to help the elderly relieve their stress. Furthermore, Urban Group has encouraged and supported its staff members to participate in the Oxfam Trailwalker and the Green Power Hike, aiming to raise fund for the two charities.
According to Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group, "The corporate social responsibility mission of Urban Group is to create a huge social service network through encouraging our 3,000 employees and 1 million customers to participate in various social services to build our corporate social capital."
"In 2007, Urban Group was awarded the 5-Year Caring Company Award by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service to recognize our efforts in serving the community, whereas 11 companies under our Group were also awarded the Caring Company logo to commend their endeavours to encourage staff members and their customers to care for the welfare of the community." Said Dr Edmond Cheng.
