Urban Group sponsors 1,800 Elderly to join PLK "Village Casserole Fest"

Urban Group, a member of the listed NWS Holdings (HKEx. 0659), the major supporting organization of the Po Leung Kuk (PLK) District Elderly Campaign, has sponsored over 1,800 elderly from various districts to join the "Village Casserole Fest" organized by the Kuk to mark the accomplishment of the Campaign. Moreover, volunteers from Urban Group have recently visited the singleton elderly in Kwun Tong to detect their needs.

The Po Leung Kuk "District Elderly Campaign" was aiming to awaken people's concern over the needs of the elderly and to cater for their needs through the concerted efforts of various commercial and organizations. Corporate volunteers of various organizations including Urban Group carried out 5 rounds of concern visit to the elderly living in different districts over the territory between September and October 2005.

The Closing Ceremony of the District Elderly Campaign cum the "Village Casserole Fest" was held on 5th November 2005 at the Headquarters of Po Leung Kuk in Causeway Bay. Officiating at the Ceremony included Dr The Honourable Patrick Ho, JP, Secretary of Home Affairs; Mr Vincent To, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk; Mr K M So, Executive Director of Urban Group; Mr M C Chu, Director of Po Leung Kuk and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the District Elderly Campaign.

Mr K M So, Executive Director of Urban Group said during the Ceremony, "Urban Group is most delighted to join this large-scale campaign of Po Leung Kuk to concern for the needs of the singleton elderly. We have formed a "Quality Corporate Social Partnership" with Po Leung Kuk in 2005. Apart from joining the 'District Elderly Campaign' and sponsoring the 'Village Casserole Fest', we have also actively supported various social service appeals of the Kuk such as the 'Elderly Mini-University' programme completed this August and organized the 'Books Recycling for Po Leung' Campaign in our management portfolio. We will continue to work as a partner with Po Leung Kuk and support their social and community projects to help more in need as well as to reinforce our corporate citizenship."

Dr Patrick Ho, Secretary for Home Affairs also said that, "to promote caring for and improvement of the lives of the elderly require the joint efforts of the Government, the NGOs and the people in the society. The 'District Elderly Campaign' of Po Leung Kuk is successful in soliciting help from the corporate volunteers and sponsorship from Urban Group and various organizations and people demonstrated the well established community service image of the Kuk. It also shows that Urban and others in the commercial sector are responsive to the Government's appeal to join hands in building a cohesive and harmonious society in Hong Kong."
