Urban Group signs Quality Social Partnership Charter with Po Leung Kuk to establish Urban Community Care Alliance

Urban Group signs the "Quality Social Partnership Charter" with Po Leung Kuk on 13th August 2005 to unveil a series of community care programmes jointly organized by the two organizations in the coming months. Moreover, The Urban Community Care Alliance is established by 38 property volunteer teams under Urban Group, signifying their efforts in building up a huge social service network.

The Quality Social Partnership Charter Signing Ceremony was held at the Headquarters of Po Leung Kuk in Causeway Bay. Representing the two organizations to sign the charter were Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group and Mr Vincent To, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, witnessed by Mr Lam Shiu Kau, Secretary for Sub-committee on Promotion of Volunteering in Community Organizations of the Social Welfare Department.

In addition, after declaring the service pledge by 38 volunteer team leaders from properties managed by Urban Group, The Urban Community Care Alliance was formed; representing a strong network for social services has been established in Hong Kong.

Speaking at the Ceremony, Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group stated that the Group has been emphasizing the concept of Community Manager to help establish a good living environment for the people of Hong Kong. The Group formed its volunteer team in 2002, named as "Urban Community Care Team", which has up-to-date recruited 250 volunteers among their 4,000 staff members. The Group actively encourages its staff to participate in various social services in the community, which led them to receive the Caring Company recognition since 2002 from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.

Dr Edmond Cheng mentioned that, "2005 is Urban Group's "Caring Hong Kong Year". Our mission is to promote our corporate social responsibility in "Community Care and Society Building" to reinforce our corporate citizenship. Moreover, we hope that with our strong network of 300 properties in the territory, we can encourage the residents to form their own volunteer team, which helps contribute to the voluntary services."

Mr Vincent To, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk expressed that, "we are most grateful to Urban Group for their participation and support to our social services. They include the Mini-University Programme for 100 Elderly; the promotions of the Elders Fund-raising Project; and the Village Casserole Fest to be held later this year."
