Date: 23/02/2004

Eleven companies under Hong Kong's Largest Property Asset and Facility Management Group - Urban Group were awarded the Caring Company Logo by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) in recognition of their contribution and outstanding achievements in serving the society.

Organized by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the aim of the Caring Company Scheme is to promote corporate social responsibility by bridging the private and social service sectors in strategic partnership and to recognize business organizations in their commitment and contributions to community services.

According to the Hon Bernard Chan, Chairperson of HKCSS, "The Caring Company Scheme is a scheme with action and impact. Companies used their expertise and industry strength to serve the community in concrete and creative ways. The private sector not only mobilizes their staff in volunteer services, but also their customers and business partners to get involved through their strong networks to enhance the social cohesion of our society."

The award of the Caring Company Logo to the 11 companies under Urban Group signifies its contributions in community involvement. The Group receives the largest number of this recognition among the property management companies in the territory, which consolidates its leading position in the property asset and facility management industry. It becomes a role model in the industry to encourage more property management companies to serve the community and to shoulder corporate social responsibility.

Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group revealed, "As Hong Kong's Premier Property and Facility Management Group, we emphasize 'Community Care' through our service provisions to our customers. We established the 'The Urban Group Community Care Team' in 2002 and support our staff as well as our customers in the 320 properties under our management in their initiative to participate in voluntary services. We also encourage owners' organizations to set up their own volunteering team to serve the community."

Urban Group launched the industry unique "Urban Premier Management Model™" in 2002 emphasizing "People, Process and Performance" aiming to introduce quality management services and lifestyle for the people of Hong Kong and to enhance service standard in the properties under its management. One crucial element of the model is to build up a caring community in Hong Kong.

Over the past years, Urban Group has been actively participating in various charitable events like Trailwalker, the Green Power Hike, and The Community Chest Millions Walk and had developed strategic partnership with the social service sector. "The Urban Group Community Care Team" has contributed in a number of volunteering and social services such as visiting the elderly, helping them in cleaning and minor repairing works in their homes and distributing scarves to the elderly to promote corporate social responsibility among its staff members.

Dr Edmond Cheng added, "Urban Group has been co-organizing with the Employees Retraining Board and the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association to conduct retraining programmes on property asset and facility management for the people. Titled as "The Rainbow Project", the programme aims to help relieve the unemployment of the Hong Kong community and provide an opportunity for the middle level executives from different industries to rebuild their career in professional property asset and facility management. Over the past two years, Urban had employed 387 retrained staff from this programme."

Urban Group, a member of NWS Holdings Limited (0659), is the Largest Property Asset and Facility Management Group in Hong Kong. It is now managing 320 projects territory-wide with 180,000 residential units, serving a total of 1,000,000 people in Hong Kong.
