Urban Group's Total Participation in "Territory-wide Cleansing Day"

¡@¡@Over 300 properties and shopping arcades under the Urban Group participated in the "Territory-Wide Cleansing Day" campaign launched by the Hong Kong SAR Government on 19th April 2003. With the support from their 600,000 residents in various properties, more than 3,500 employees of Urban worked with their cleansing service contractors to sterilize and clean the properties on that day.

¡@¡@Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group disclosed, "Urban Group has carried out a number of preventive measures since the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in Hong Kong. We established the Urban Group Crisis Communications Centre in early March to oversee and control the dissemination of information and to coordinate all preventative measures to combat the virus. We have prepared standardized posters and circulars to update our customers on the preventive measures against the deadly virus so as to safeguard themselves from contracting the disease. Since then, we have also provided protective facemasks and gloves for our staff as well as our customers."

¡@¡@Dr Edmond Cheng continued, "Under such critical moment, we have been strengthening the cleanliness of the properties through the joint efforts with our 'Quality Partners' including our cleaning service contractors to enhance the hygienic measures and cleaning services to the public areas. We use sterilizing solvent to wipe surfaces frequently touched by the people such as the lift cars and buttons, door gates, handrails, the intercom system and digital locks at the main lobbies and other locations. In addition, we have placed sterilized carpets at the entrances so that people can wipe their shoes before entering the buildings to help prevent the spread of the virus."

¡@¡@Urban Group also keeps close communications with related Government departments and medical organizations to collect and disseminate updated information regarding SARS to the residents and their staff members. Moreover, they have also jointly organized a number of talks and seminars with relevant health care organizations to educate the residents about SARS.
