Premier Green Policies recognized
Lei King Wan and Aldrich Garden under Urban Group
participate in "Dry and Wet Waste Separation Pilot Scheme"
Date: 3/4/2003

¡@¡@Two large housing estates in the Eastern District managed by the Urban Group have been selected by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) to take part in the "Dry and Wet Waste Separation Pilot Scheme" to evaluate the possibility in categorizing and recycling dry and wet waste.

¡@¡@"The Dry and Wet Waste Separation Pilot Scheme" is coordinated by the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB), EPD and the Food, Environment and Hygiene Department (FEHD). It's aims are to obtain the composition profile of domestic waste from the two estates and to calculate the recovery rates, which will become indicators for monitoring the progress of the future waste recovery initiatives in Hong Kong

¡@¡@Accordingly to Dr Sarah Liao, Secretary for Environment, Transport and Works, "This Pilot Scheme will last for 12 months started from March 2003. With the cooperation of residents from Lei King Wan and Aldrich Garden in Shaukeiwan, their management company and the cleaning contractors, the dry waste collected will be delivered to a waste separation pilot facility for further sorting and then be recycled into many different useful products. Whereas the wet waste will be taken to the landfills."

¡@¡@Managing Director of Urban Group Dr Edmond Cheng pointed out that, "We actively implement Environmental Care Management Policies in our properties to provide a cost effective and green lifestyle to our customers. We are pleased to know that Lei King Wan and Aldrich Garden are invited to join the 'Dry and Wet Waste Separation Pilot Scheme'. We will assist our customers to participate in this meaningful campaign and contribute to the future environmental policies launched by the Hong Kong Government."

¡@¡@Dr Edmond Cheng said, "Urban will assist the organizer to distribute plastic bags to the residents of the two estates and instruct the cleaning contractors to handle the waste collected separately. All the figures collected will then be submitted to the Government for analysis."

¡@¡@"Urban Group has been promoting our Green Management Policies and different recycling campaigns in our portfolio to help establishing a green living environment for our customers." Described Dr Edmond Cheng.
