City One Shatin under Urban Group wins 2002 Eco-Business Green Property Management Gold Award

Urban Group, as a member of NWS Holdings, obtained the "2002 Eco-Business Award ¡V Green Property Management (Private Housing) Gold Award to maintain its leading position in the industry. Urban Group has received totally 11 major green awards in 2002 and stands as Hong Kong's Premier Environmental Care Management Group.

The Hong Kong Eco-business Awards is organized by the Environmental Campaign Committee, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and Hong Kong Productivity Council.

The objectives of the Eco-Business Award are to encourage, promote and give public recognition to organizations in Hong Kong, which adopt the principles of green practices in their business; to educate organizations about the importance and benefits of implementing green practices; and to provide guidance and information on green office, green property management operations and green innovation practices.

Urban Group obtained the Eco-Business Award through adopting their green management policies at City One Shatin, one of the largest private housing estates under Urban Group. City One Shatin is a pioneer in green property management, which has been participating actively in various recycling campaigns since 1993 and has received 17 major environmental care awards within the last 4 years. The Green Property Management Gold Award recognized the contributions of City One Shatin in building up a green living environment.

According to Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group, 'Green Lifestyle' is one of the 7 Core Drivers of our 'Urban Premier Management Model' launched in September 2002. It emphasizes on establishing a cost-effective and quality green lifestyle for our customers to help build Hong Kong as a Green City."

Dr Edmond Cheng mentioned that "Urban introduced green management policies in City One Shatin through Paramatta Property Management Limited. We have worked closely with the City One Committee to launch different kinds of environmental care and recycling activities to spread green messages to the 10,642 units of customers, which makes the estate a leading green property in the locale."

Mr William K W Wong, Chairman of the City One Committee said, "We strive to promote the concept of environmental care to our residents. In City One Shatin, we set up the Greenery Teams and Nursery to build up a green living environment and formed the Green Kids in our Environmental Protection Ambassadors Scheme to help transmitting green messages to the residents. Other activities organized in the estate included the used book and clothes recycling campaigns and the adoption of organic fertilizer."

Dr Cheng emphasized, "Urban encourages all our 3,500 employees to place strong focus on corporate social responsibility in our daily work to resonate the 'Sustainable Development' appeal of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Our Total Environmental Care Policy is well recognized in the society, which aims to exceed our customers' expectation."

"Moving into 2003, we will continue to strive our best to promote the environmental care concept among our customers in the 300 projects under our management to contribute our efforts to protect the resources of the Earth." Said Dr Cheng.
