Urban Group and its 145 associated companies and properties support the Earth Hour 2019

Date: 12/4/2019

Urban Group always support environmental protection campaigns. Its headquarters, 5 associated companies and 140 properties under its management supported the Earth Hour 2019 Campaign which held on 30th March, by switching off all non-essential lights and electronic appliances at 8:30pm for an hour to symbolise all stakeholders could conserve energy in their daily life and join hands to reduce pollution to the Earth.

Dr Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group revealed, “Urban Group supported this meaningful exercise for 11 consecutive years. We always infuse environmental protection elements into our management planning and daily operations. By supporting the Earth Hour Campaign, we set an example to our stakeholders and persuade them to reduce energy consumption in their daily life. This could also reduce carbon emission.”

“According to the World Wildlife Fund’s (‘WWF’) analysis of our local ecological footprint, Hong Kong people are living beyond the Earth’s limits. If the rest of the world lived like Hong Kong did, we would need 4.2 Earths to meet our total demand on nature. Behavioral change in our daily life by conserving energy is the most prominent way to prevent excessive use of natural resources. The choices we make can have a considerable impact on our sustainable future,” said Dr Edmond Cheng.

“The properties under our management which participated in the Earth Hour, include residential estates, commercial buildings, government facilities and educational institutions. We hope our support could influence the other stakeholders to take up their social responsibility and engage more support from the society to protect the environment,” Dr Edmond Cheng added.

Earth Hour aims at encouraging people to think about changing their lifestyles to reduce the impact on the environment. The Campaign was initiated by the WWF in 2007 in Australia and developed into a global activity in 2008.
