9 properties under Urban Group support BEC Intelligent Resource Management Programme

Date: 24/1/2019

The BEC Jockey Club Intelligent Resource Management Programme, launched by Business Environment Council Limited (‘BEC’), held on 4th December 2018 is a 3-year Programme funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, aiming to study the waste generation and recycling performance of 200 office and residential buildings as well as schools in Hong Kong through a smart waste monitoring system.

9 properties under the management of Urban Group, including Elegance Gardens, South Hillcrest and Handsome Court in Tuen Mun; Harmony Garden Block 1 and Riviera Gardens in Tsuen Wan; Ning Yeung Terrace and The Merton in Western District; and Park Vale and Harbour Heights in the Eastern Distict, joined this Intelligent Resource Management Programme. They will assist the organizer to collect waste and recyclable data so as to help evaluate the effectiveness of the current waste management policy and prepare for the implementation of Municipal Solid Waste (‘MSW’) Charging Scheme in the coming year.

“We foresee there might have some hiccups generated from the society at the early stage of the MSW Charging Scheme. It will take time to gain support and conform with the rules and regulations in achieving the “user pay principle”. Several residential and commercial properties under our management have already participated in the MSW Charging Pilot Scheme to obtain operational experiences,” Dr. Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group remarked.

“We have been taking proactive actions through participating in various green management programmes and recycling activities such as the Clean Recycling Project to help promote environmental care and waste reduction to our customers, guiding them to adjust their behavior to enable a smooth implementation of MSW Charging Scheme,” Dr. Edmond Cheng added.
