Rhythm Garden supports the Feed-in Tariff Scheme
Renewable energy will be generated starting from 1st October

Date: 28/9/2018

The HKSAR Government has introduced the Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff Scheme earlier on, allowing private buildings to invest in solar power system and connect the system with the public power grids. The first batch of private buildings participating in this project are ready to sell the renewable electricity to the local power company starting from 1st October.

Rhythm Garden in San Po Kong, under the management of Urban Group, has joined the Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff Scheme offered by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (‘CLP’). 12 buildings in the estate have completed the installation of the solar power system which will begin to generate solar power and sell electricity to CLP in early October.
The rooftop of the 12 buildings in Rhythm Garden have installed a total of 902 pieces, equivalent to 1,479 square meters of Photovoltaic Module, which can generate up to 16,000 to 17,500 kWh of electricity per month. The renewable electricity is expected to be sold to CLP at a price of HK$4 to HK$5 per kWh.

“It took 3 months to complete the installation of the solar power system in Rhythm Garden due to the considerable area in this estate. We have arranged multiple tests and manage to be the first batch of private housing estates to generate renewable energy for the Feed-in Tariff Scheme,” Dr. Edmond Cheng, Managing Director of Urban Group remarked.

“In addition to ensuring that the installation of the entire solar power system is in compliance with the statutory requirements, including but not limited to, the Buildings Department and the Fire Services Department, we have consulted with the supplier to make sure the System would not cause any nuisance to the residents in Rhythm Garden, nor any noise, light pollution or radiation during operation,” Dr. Edmond Cheng continued.

Dr. Cheng also reveals that there are a number of housing estates under the management of Urban Group expressing their interest in joining the Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff Scheme. The Group is in discussion with the owners’ corporation of the respective estates as well as the electricity companies. Following the success of Rhythm Garden, Urban Group will promote the Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff Scheme to the properties under its management in order to support renewable energy and environmental protection.
